The picturesque town of Zell am See (www.zellamsee-kaprun.com) is nestled on the shore of Lake Zell at the foot of the Schmittenhöhe Mountain. In one direction, we’ll see a beautiful frozen lake – in the other, snow covered mountains and ski runs. The Zell am See-Kaprun ski region alone has 82 miles of ski runs. The Kitzsteinhorn Glacier ski area, above Kaprun, offers year-round skiing, with modern lifts and spectacular views. If we ski from the top of glacier to the valley floor, we’ll log a stunning 7448 feet of vertical, one of the largest vertical descents in the Alps. The Salzburg Superskicard (www.superskicard.com) will give us access to this entire area plus the nearby resorts of Kitzbühel and Saalbach-Hinterglemm and more! Cross country skiers will enjoy over 125 miles of prepared tracks, including a scenic course high on the glacier. Aprés-ski and nightlife abound in the traffic-free, pedestrian area which is lined with charming buildings, interesting shops, and lively bars. If you want to sightsee, consider a scenic train ride to Salzburg (1 hour) or Innsbruck or Munich (approx. 1.5 hours). Our home for the week is the 4-star Hotel Heitzmann, centrally located near the pedestrian area, a few minutes’ walk to the town lift and couple of blocks from the train station. We’ll end our adventure with three nights in Vienna, staying at the well-located 4-star superior Hotel Savoyen. A private three-hour guided bus tour of the city is included. There is hotel space for 36 fun loving people and group airfare has 30 reserved seats. Land package only and alternate air packages can be arranged.
