S’no Joke Hiking Planning Meeting

Thanks to those who attended the hiking planning meeting.  Much discussed, mainly the need to get out there and enjoy our great outdoors.  We need the healing that hiking outdoors provides and to get together as friends.  Here are the main points we covered:

  • Starting out with groups of 6 and growing as the pandemic lessens
  • Staying local while we assess how the group hiking works out and the snow melts in the mountains
  • Posting midweek hikes as well as weekend hikes
  • If weather cooperates, having a social time after the hike at the trailhead with everyone bringing food and drink of choice and chairs if desired
  • Welcoming hiking destination ideas as well as leaders for those hikes

Of course, this means we need your participation!  Please volunteer to lead a hike – you choose your date and choice of hike.  And if you need ideas, the hiking group will come up with ideas!  So many hikes in our area to choose from like a hike around scenic Discovery Park to the magnificent Cascade Pass & Sahalee Arm in the North Cascades.

Hiking Coordinator Needed: all you need to do is post and blast hikes from hiking leaders.  You do want to hike with your S’no Joke friends, right?

Let’s Get Out There!

Hike Squak Mountain’s Eastside Loop

When:  Thursday, June 11th meeting at 9:00 am

Trailhead:  Off Sycamore Drive SE accessed from Front Street in Issaquah across from the Issaquah High School.  Turn right on Sycamore Drive SE, curve up the hill, right on Hillside Drive SE then left on SE Crystal Creek Circle.  Trailhead is on the west side of the road just before the road ends.  This is a residential area, you will be parking in front of people’s houses.

Hiking details:  Approximately 5 miles round trip with 1300 feet elevation gain

As we head uphill we’ll pass Crystal Creek on delightful trails through a forest of conifers and deciduous trees all in vibrant green.  Keeping right on all trail junctions, we loop around, crossing Crystal Creek many times and getting a few peeks of Tiger Mountain to the east until we rejoin the trail we hiked up on and back down to our cars.

If weather is decent we’ll have a social area at the nearby Issaquah Community Center.

Contact Julie Byington, jbyington7@comcast.net, 206-755-5987 with questions.  Nasty weather cancels.  Contact trip leader if in doubt and sign up at snojoke.org.
